Sometimes I feel my life skidding out of control. Then I realize that the illusion is when I think that I have control. In real life there just is no such thing as complete control.
I recently was able to participate as a judge in an ebook contest. The books were great and made me realize again how much quality work is in ebooks today. Strange, but never once did I compare my books to theirs. I was judging the erotica category and competing in the romance category, so it wasn't the same thing, but writing is writing no matter the category. I encourage everyone to read.
I don't have as much time to read anymore, with work and writing. I have to force myself to put down my pencil (I write long hand) and read instead of write sometimes. It's well worth it though.
I rarely noticed technique before I started writing seriously. Now, I'm amazed at what I was missing. I really admire how well some writers write and I'm surprised at how many best-selling authors don't write all that well. Oh, well. Who am I to criticize?
I recently finished the rough draft of my new Fantasy novel, Crossing Faerieland. Each book I write is more interesting to me than the last. This one has faeries, shapeshifters, humans, dryads, dragons, pixies, brownies, ogres, and probably others I've forgotten. It's full of sex and violence--a little something for everyone.
I do have a conundrum, though. I wrote a scene with m/m sex in it. I'm conflicted about whether or not to include it. I've got it. I'll run a poll and see which users prefer. Yeah, that's the ticket.
